PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS IN LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY SPECIMENS IN TEACHING HOSPITAL OF LAHORE
Abstract
Aim: Pathological findings in laparoscopic sleeve Gastrectomy specimens.
Setting: Doctor’s Hospital Clinical lab Lahore.
Method: Retrospectively demographic data and biopsy report of patient who go through surgical
procedure of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy since 1
st Jan 2016 to May2024 were obtained from clinical
laboratory of Doctor’s Hospital Lahore.
Result: A total of 101 patients who go through surigical procedure of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
Between these patients, 53 (52.5%) were female along with 48 (47.5%) were male. Age of patient varies
from 15 to 62 years and the majority of the patient were in 41 to 50 years of age. The Histological
sections of specimens revealed that lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate in lamina propria were the most
common histopathological finding (52,51.5%) followed by no remarkable histopathological
findings(22,21.8%).The other pathology found were H-pylori induced gastritis(33,32.7%) and active
gastritis(10,9.9%).
Conclusion: Our findings reveals that need for routinely performing biopsy reporting of laparoscopic
sleeve gastrectomy specimens. The study also highlights lympho-plasmacytic infiltrtate and H-pylori as
the other most common pathological finding.
